SALEM: Former zonal railway users’ consultative committee member G Hariharan Babu has urged Southern Railway to operate some trains from Salem Town Railway Station instead of Salem Junction, citing the hardships faced by commuters.

In a representation to the Salem railway divisional manager Panna Lal on Saturday, Babu pointed out that Salem Town station lies 8 km away Southern Railway the junction station and is surrounded by dense residential areas. “Nearly 80% of the working population lives around Salem Town and Shevapet. Passengers are forced to travel 8 km by road through traffic congestion to reach the junction station, causing loss of time, money, and fuel,” he said.
