Thodupuzha : Thodupuzha police are preparing to invoke provisions of the anti-ragging law against those accused of brutally assaulting a student and causing severe injuries to his genitals. The incident reportedly took place at a private institution in Thodupuzha, where the victim, a native of Anakkara, is a student. A minor student and two of his classmates are accused of assaulting him.
Police are yet to register a case against the other two. Their alleged involvement is being examined before further action is taken. The statement of one of the students accused in the case has been recorded, while the statements of the others will be taken.
As he is a minor, he was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and subsequently released into the custody of his family. The attack was reportedly in retaliation to this. The assault left the student with serious injuries to his genitals, and one of his testicles had to be surgically removed. The case has triggered protests, including a strong demonstration by the SFI at the institution. One of the accused was taken into custody.
The victim had earlier informed teachers, with video evidence, that three students at the hostel were regularly using ganja and other narcotic substances.
