Sanders started seven games for Cleveland in 2025, posting a 3-4 record and earning a Pro Bowl nomination. Cleveland entered Week 6 with a 3-2 record, giving the team little immediate reason to disrupt its current quarterback setup. The reported link raises an interesting question: could Dallas see value in developing Sanders as a long-term backup rather than letting his potential go to waste?
“The only reason it would make sense to hire an agent now is if you need some representation heading into the trade deadline,” wrote Breech. The Dallas Cowboys have emerged as a possible destination for the young quarterback, with CBS Sports analyst John Breech identifying Dallas as one of five teams that could pursue a deal. Sanders has struggled to find regular playing time in Cleveland this season, while the Cowboys already have Dak Prescott firmly established as their starter. Dallas has a clear starter in Prescott, so a potential move for Sanders would not be about changing the team’s current quarterback plans. Instead, it would give the Cowboys another young passer to develop while adding depth behind their established leader. His role has changed this season, though, with Deshaun Watson taking over as the Browns’ starter. Still, Sanders’ recent decision to hire an agent has added fuel to the trade discussion. “If you have an agent, they can sniff around and see if you’re drawing any interest on the trade market, and if so, they could then try to convince your team that both sides would be better off if you moved on. That remains speculation, not confirmation that Sanders or Cleveland wants a deal. If Watson keeps his starting job and the Browns decide to build around him, the team could consider moving Sanders to gain draft capital. But his affordable rookie contract and previous starting experience also give Cleveland reasons to keep him.
Shedeur Sanders could have another NFL team to consider if the Cleveland Browns decide to move him before the trade deadline. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the move on Wednesday after Sanders had represented himself during the draft process and the early part of his NFL career.
