APPSC Group-I Mains under ED scanner, money laundering probe launched

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hyderabad : The Enforcement Directorate has registered an Enforcement Case Information Report under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act to investigate alleged irregularities and misappropriation of funds in the evaluation of Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) Group-I Mains answer scripts.

The ED’s action follows a criminal case registered by the Suryaraopet police in Vijayawada in April 2025 under IPC Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 477-A (falsification of accounts) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with Section 34. The answer scripts remained in the custody of the private agency for 84 days, according to the SIT probe. Investigators have further alleged that 66 unqualified persons were engaged as evaluators, and that pre-determined marks were transferred to OMR sheets without adequate oversight or CCTV-based accountability. The Andhra Pradesh high court granted Anjaneyulu interim bail on medical grounds in June 2025 following bypass surgery and later extended the relief till Aug 28, 2025, pending hearing of his main bail petition.

Anjaneyulu’s defence has maintained that the decision to undertake manual evaluation was taken collectively and was in compliance with directions issued by the high court.

The allegations are part of an ongoing investigation and do not constitute judicial findings of guilt.
