Committee secretary and Mathura district magistrate CP Singh said, “Officials have also been directed to improve sanitation in the temple’s narrow lanes and properly organise exposed and tangled electrical cables. Food sampling will also be intensified to ensure the quality of offerings and other food items sold around the shrine, he said. Agra : Shri Banke Bihari high-powered management committee has banned devotees from throwing pedas, flower garlands and tulsi malas at the deity, citing concerns over hygiene and the desecration of sacred offerings that fall on the floor and get trampled. The committee also discussed a proposal to install a central air-conditioning system at the temple, carry out an inspection of its gold and silver ceremonial thrones and conduct an audit of works carried out around the shrine using banks’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. A technical team comprising executive engineers has been constituted to assess whether installing central air-conditioning could damage the temple’s structure. The committee also reviewed the progress of an inquiry into the temple’s silver chariots, Shesh throne, gold and silver boats, Surya Prabha and Chandra Prabha thrones and other ceremonial seats used during festivals and religious occasions. The inquiry team, comprising the senior superintendent of police (SSP), the vice-chairperson of Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA) and the municipal commissioner, has been directed to submit its report within a month. Further action will be decided based on the findings. Download the TOI App.

Notices announcing the ban will be displayed at the temple gates and outside the premises, committee sources told TOI on Thursday. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Justice Ashok Kumar on Wednesday evening.
