MBA student killed after car hits bike taxi in Rohini — Delhi dream cut short

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: Just two months ago, 20-year-old Manjeet Kaur had moved from Himachal Pradesh to Delhi, hoping to build a better future. On Wednesday evening, that dream was cut short when she was killed after a car allegedly hit the bike taxi she was riding on in northwest Delhi’s Begumpur.

“She had booked a ride from Rithala metro station to her PG in Rohini when, at around 7.07pm, the blip showing her live location stopped moving. She must have been about 30 metres from Begumpur police station then,” said her friend, Manpreet Singh (23).

Police said the driver fled the spot after the accident. Kaur’s phone then became unreachable, prompting them to repeatedly contact the police, according to her friends. Police have registered an FIR at Begumpur police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are analysing CCTV footage to identify the vehicle involved. Further investigation is underway.

She believed she would earn well and give her family a better life,” Singh said. “She thought there was nothing to be afraid of in Delhi.

Around 7.45pm, Singh received a call informing him that Kaur had been taken to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital after an accident.

When he reached the hospital, he was told that she had died on the spot. Her body was later shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
