A Zilla Parishad school from Sindgi village in Kalamnuri taluka of Hingoli district had developed cracks in the wall-ceiling junction due to earthquake on October 3
With this latest event, Hingoli has now recorded 17 earthquakes in just under 12 months, official data shows, making the Marathwada district one of the most seismically active zones in the country. No loss of life or property was reported due to the mild seismic activity, which is part of a much larger, unsettling pattern in this part of Hingoli district.
Hingoli district collector Rahul Gupta said a team of scientists from the National Center for Seismology (NCS) in New Delhi is scheduled to visit the seismically active zones in the district for a wider study.
Once the team submits its report and recommendations, larger preventive measures will be taken,” he said. “A scientist from the NCS has already visited the areas recently and installed a seismograph at Pangari-Shinde village in Basmath-Hingoli belt. As part of a broader study, a team from NCS will visit in Jan next year.
