It is believed to be the first time a council has launched such a public initiative to encourage residents to report the offence.

Fly-tipping is illegal, harms the environment and blights our neighbourhoods,” the spokesperson said. The council added that its social media posts reflected how seriously residents viewed the issue and said the approach had shown early signs of success. They’re wrong,” the authority said. In a recent incident, fly-tippers targeted St Anselm’s Church car park, according to the council. The authority said those involved “weren’t as anonymous as they thought” and appealed to the public for information to help enforcement teams identify them. “There’s no excuse for dumping waste illegally in Hillingdon when a range of free or low-cost disposal options are available,” the spokesperson said. The council said it would continue to pursue enforcement action where evidence allowed, including issuing fines, seizing and crushing vehicles, and pursuing prosecutions where possible.

The initiative involves sharing images of people allegedly leaving waste on streets and other public spaces, with the council appealing to residents for information that could help enforcement teams identify those responsible. “We’re sending a clear message that fly-tipping in our borough will not be tolerated. “While most residents dispose of their waste responsibly, a small minority continue to think they can dump rubbish and drive away without consequences.

The Government spent £19.3 million clearing large-scale fly-tipping incidents in England last year, nearly 50 per cent more than in the preceding 12 months.
