At one point he was contracted to work 183 hours a week for five roles — more hours than exist in seven days.
TOI correspondent from London: A British Bangladeshi civil servant is on trial in the UK accused of fraudulently taking on five full-time govt jobs at the same time which he juggled by taking sick leave and working remotely without switching his camera on.Kashim Chowdhury (55) of Whitechapel, East London, is alleged to have earned almost £350,000 (Rs 4.4 crore) per year from multiple public sector roles between Feb 2020 and Sept 2023. He also allegedly frequently reported technical problems with his laptop or kept his camera off during meetings.
His line managers told the court he did not tell them he had employment elsewhere and described his performance as “ineffective” and “poor”. Chowdhury also accidentally logged on to the meeting with his Defra email address, the jury was told. Chowdhury, on trial at Southwark Crown Court charged with nine counts of fraud, which he denies, often used sick leave to hide his other employment from managers, the court heard. The court heard that in a Teams call with his manager at the UKHSA to discuss his sick leave, he wore white makeup to try and make himself look ill, but the makeup did not cover his neck and started peeling off during the call, showing his real skin underneath.
