Bengaluru: A 20-year-old BTech student died after allegedly jumping from her university hostel building in Nagadevanahalli, Doddaballapura taluk, Thursday night, prompting police to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police, who did not find any death note, said Varshini jumped from the corridor on the sixth floor around 8.30pm and died instantly. A case has been registered under Section 106 (causing death by negligence) at Doddaballapura Rural police station.
We are checking her mobile phone too,” a senior officer said. “There is no foul play. We checked CCTV cameras and found the footage showing her jumping. Police are gathering information about reports that she may have been experiencing depression. Her family members, who rushed to the hostel Friday, filed a complaint accusing the university management of not taking security measures to prevent students from jumping or falling from the corridor. Her family blamed the absence of iron grills along the corridor, alleging this allowed Varshini to jump easily from the sixth floor.
