Bijnor: The Embassy of India in Moscow has renewed its request to Russian authorities to facilitate the release of Akshay Kumar , 22, from UP’s Amroha district, after being informed that he had acquired Russian citizenship and held that country’s passport, his family said.
His family has been seeking his whereabouts since losing contact with him on Aug 24. The family said Kumar was injured on July 1 and returned to his unit. They were informed about his injury on July 15. However, they have been unable to establish contact with him since Aug 24 and remain unaware of his current condition and whereabouts.

Elder brother, Aman, said the family has repeatedly approached the Indian Embassy in Moscow through emails, seeking information about Kumar’s condition and requesting assistance in securing his return to India. The family said the embassy informed them that it had taken up the matter of Kumar’s release with Russia’s defence ministry. But Russian authorities purportedly told the embassy that Kumar had acquired citizenship of Russia and obtained a passport. Following the response, the embassy renewed its request to the Russian authorities to facilitate his release, the family said.
Kumar from Amroha’s Fatehpur Chhitara area purportedly joined the Russian military after travelling there around two years ago on a student visa. Kumar’s father, Randhir Singh, who works in Haryana, alleged that his son had initially been assured of non-combat duties, including digging trenches and constructing tunnels, but was subsequently deployed to the frontline in the Russia-Ukraine war.
