The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Prayagraj: High drama was witnessed in Sangramgarh village of Pratapgarh on Friday when a 20-year-old man climbed a 150-metre-high electricity tower, insisting on marrying a minor girl. He also posted three videos on social media where he was seen harming himself with a knife while Bhojpuri songs played in the background.

The youth belongs to Chhoti Payagpur (Raniganj Kaithaula) and was booked in June at Lalganj police station for allegedly abducting a minor girl from his locality, according to police. He said he would take a decision only after the police ask the girl whether she wants to live with him. He had been on the run after securing a stay on arrest from the High Court. Identified as Kapil Patel, he remained atop the tower for over nine hours, ignoring police appeals. Rescue teams from the police, administration and fire department were deployed at the spot as villagers gathered in large numbers.

On Friday, he reached Sangramgarh village and climbed a mobile tower, demanding that the girl be brought before him.
