Kanpur: Police commissioner Raghubir Lal recorded BJP leader Ramesh Singh Yadav’s statement for 1.5 hours in connection with the Rs 34-lakh robbery in which Yadav was allegedly held hostage. They held him at gunpoint and robbed jewellery and cash worth Rs 34 lakh. Police initially obtained blurred footage from one of about 30 cameras installed at the farmhouse.
Police were checking the locations of criminals from the Sen Paschim Para police station area who had recently been released from jail. Eight police teams have obtained additional footage and mobile phone clues indicating that the robbers may belong to nearby villages. Yadav is a state secretary in BJP Pichhda Varg Morcha and a former block head. The camera covering the current entry point was not working. Several people had been detained and were being questioned.
Two masked men allegedly entered Yadav’s farmhouse in Nyauri, under Sen Paschim Para police station on Monday night.
Lal suspended inspector Pradeep Kumar Singh on Tuesday for negligence in the investigation.
