Lucknow: Devi temples across Uttar Pradesh will double as cultural venues this Navratri , with 78 local artists slated to perform at 26 temples in 24 districts from Oct 17 to 19 under an initiative of the state culture department.

Tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said the initiative is designed to link religious celebrations with opportunities for women artists and community performers. “Our effort is to ensure that women artists receive respect and recognition, while local performers get an opportunity to showcase their talent and strengthen their livelihoods,” Singh said. Singh said the programme will also carry Mission Shakti’s message of women’s safety, dignity and self-reliance during the festivities.

Women artists will be given priority in the programme, which is being organised as part of Mission Shakti . At each participating temple, three performers will present traditional Devi devotional songs and recite passages from Durga Saptashati, aiming to provide a platform for local talent while supporting the continuation of long-practised worship traditions.
