Prayagraj: Allahabad University will not introduce new self-financed courses unless regular teachers are available to run them. This was decided in a recent meeting of the Academic Council (AC), chaired by vice-chancellor Prof Sangita Srivastava. The varsity administration has ruled out depending solely on part-time or guest faculty for such courses, stressing that adequate regular faculty is essential to maintain academic quality. The decision was taken during discussions on proposals for launching new programmes at the meeting held at North Hall. Members stressed that expansion of courses should not come at the cost of teaching standards. The university also reviewed the condition of its hostels. Prof Srivastava held a meeting with wardens and superintendents and directed officials to prioritise reconstruction and maintenance work at three men’s hostels—G N Jha, Tarachand and Diamond Jubilee—and two women’s hostels, Priyadarshini and Sarojini Naidu. Officials have been asked to identify problems related to civil works, electricity, sewage lines, Wi-Fi and other basic facilities and prepare proposals for the required work.
