Ahmedabad: A Rs 5,000 loan dispute turned violent in Juhapura after five men allegedly attacked a 26-year-old daily-wage labourer with swords, knives, a wooden stick and another sharp weapon, leaving him seriously injured.
The victim had lent Rs 5,000 to a friend about six months ago to help him pay house rent, according to the complaint registered on Saturday with Vejalpur police. Around eight to 10 days ago, another argument broke out when the victim demanded repayment. Despite repeated requests, the money was not returned.
Around 12.30am on Saturday, the five men allegedly returned armed with weapons and confronted the victim near a cycle repair shop opposite the pan parlour. When the victim insisted on getting his money back, the relative allegedly became angry and left. Shortly afterwards, four others arrived, abused him and threatened to kill him if he refused to settle the matter. As he tried to flee, one of the accused caught him from behind, while the others surrounded him. The attackers allegedly stabbed him in the chest and struck him on the arms, legs, hip and head. When one assailant attempted another knife blow, the victim raised his right hand to defend himself, injuring two fingers.
On Friday evening, a relative of the borrower approached the victim at a pan parlour in Juhapura and asked him to settle the dispute.
