Police are probing the incident, which was captured on CCTV cameras. Kolhapur: Police have registered a non-cognisable offence against a sevekari (temple attendant) at Kolhapur’s Mahalaxmi temple after a group of women alleged that she manhandled them while asking them to vacate Kasav Chowk on Friday.

During the altercation, Suvarna Bhosale allegedly struck Rupali Swami on the ear, the complaint said. He said that the circulation of internal CCTV footage posed a security concern at a time when the temple administration and police were strengthening surveillance through AI-based systems and cameras. An argument erupted after some women objected to her behaviour. The exchange soon escalated into a scuffle. Speaking to the media, Sayali Bhosale alleged that devotees were manhandled during the incident. She claimed her child’s hearing aid was damaged in the chaos and alleged that the attendant slapped the child twice. Thanekar demanded legal action against those who circulated the footage and against any temple employee found responsible for leaking it.
