Relief Commissioner, UP, directs to ensure road safety measures are implemented properly during winter
Special emphasis has been placed on ensuring the availability of an adequate number of patrolling vehicles, ambulances and rescue vehicles near accident-prone locations on national highways, state highways and expressways so that accident victims can receive immediate assistance and timely medical care.
Relief commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod said dense fog during winter reduces visibility, increasing the risk of accidents. Lucknow : The Yogi govt has begun preparations to curb accidents caused by dense fog during winter by strengthening road safety arrangements. Under such circumstances, it is important to ensure that relief and rescue arrangements are in place in advance. Similarly, stop lines, zebra crossings and traffic indicators at major intersections, junctions, crossings, turns and accident-prone locations must be kept in proper condition. Warning signs and speed-limit boards will also be installed wherever necessary. These measures will help drivers receive timely information about road conditions and potential hazards during fog. Directions have also been issued to prevent the operation of unfit vehicles that do not comply with prescribed safety standards, as well as unsafe vehicles built using makeshift modifications. The transport department and traffic police will coordinate inspections and enforcement action to prevent potential accidents caused by unsafe vehicles. Public awareness campaigns will also be conducted to prevent road accidents . Drivers will be educated about the use of fog lights and reflective tape, maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and keeping their speed under control. Emphasis will also be placed on following road warning signs and adhering to prescribed speed limits.
