Sanvi lost her right arm following surgery and, according to the complaint, has suffered

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Bengaluru: A family’s world turned upside down when two siblings suffered severe electric shocks after a metal measuring tape used at a construction site came into contact with a high-tension wire while they were playing outside their rented home in Adde Vishwanathapura, Rajanukunte, in Bengaluru Rural, on Sept 20. A complaint was filed at Rajanukunte police station on Oct 15.

The incident occurred around 12.30pm.

The children, Sanvi Kotresh Pyathi and Ayan Kotresh Pyathi, were playing in front of their two-storey house when the metal tape came into contact with the high-tension wire running past the building, according to their father Kotresh Pyathi’s complaint.

The family accused the house owner, Somashekhar, and his wife, Vimalakshi, of failing to take safety measures despite repeated alerts and warnings about the high-tension wire running right in front of the house’s balcony. They also accused Bescom officials of negligence for failing to implement precautionary measures.

Sanvi lost her right arm following surgery and, according to the complaint, has suffered injuries on both legs. The children’s mother, Sudha, informed Kotresh, a flower trader at KR Market, and took the siblings to Victoria Hospital by ambulance. The father rushed to the hospital, where he learnt the extent of their injuries. Ayan has suffered burn injuries on his left leg, right arm, right shoulder and waist. Both children remain hospitalised and are undergoing treatment.
