Hyderabad : With concerns mounting over the possible impact of El Niño on Telangana ’s water, agriculture and power sectors, chief minister A Revanth Reddy and deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka will hold a high-level meeting with ministers and elected representatives at Praja Bhavan on Oct 23 to discuss preparedness measures and mitigation strategies.
The chief minister has also announced that a delegation comprising ministers and representatives of all political parties would meet the Centre to seek financial and other assistance to tackle challenges arising from El Niño conditions. The state govt constituted a cabinet sub-committee headed by Bhatti to assess conditions in rainfall-deficit regions, review difficulties faced by farmers, and recommend measures to protect essential services and livelihoods. The deliberations come amid a series of reviews conducted by the chief minister and the state govt on the likely impact of El Niño on rainfall, reservoir storage, drinking water supply, irrigation needs, agricultural activity and power availability in the coming months. Revanth has repeatedly warned that Telangana could face an extended period of water and power stress if adverse weather conditions persist. He has called for advance planning across departments and urged farmers to reassess crop choices, while appealing to citizens to conserve water and public representatives to support the government’s efforts.
