New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta Saturday inspected the construction of Chhatt ghats along the Munak Canal near Prem Bari Bridge in Singalpur, directing officials to finish all work before the festival to ensure devotees face no inconvenience.
This year, the four-day festival will be celebrated from Nov 13 to 16. Gupta directed officials to finish work on the ghat walls, roads and pathways before deadline. She also ordered wall painting, debris removal and decorative lighting to create a festive atmosphere. The canal is among the important locations for Chhath celebrations in northwest Delhi, drawing devotees from surrounding residential colonies.

Roads, green spaces, the bridge and ghats should be developed under an integrated plan,” the CM said. The chief minister ordered inspections of drainage and access routes, emphasising that construction quality must not be compromised for deadlines. Reviewing the landscaping along the canal, she criticised the unplanned plantation and demanded a comprehensive design for systematic green belts. “Unnecessary construction should be avoided and it should be ensured that development works do not obstruct traffic or pedestrian movement. Gupta instructed officials to prevent garbage buildup on roads, set up a proper collection and disposal system, and maintain continuous sanitation even after construction ends.
