The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

New Delhi: Delhi will step up enforcement on its borders with neighbouring NCR districts to prevent non-compliant buses from entering the city, divert heavy vehicles not bound for the capital and crack down on polluting vehicles, which may be impounded and penalised.

Delhi Traffic Police told the meeting that enforcement had been intensified and over 10,000 challans were being issued daily. These measures were discussed at a virtual meeting held by Delhi environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa with police and traffic officials from Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Sonipat and Bahadurgarh Sunday. The measures are all for air pollution control. The meeting focused on strengthening inter-state coordination and ensuring effective implementation of pollution-control measures under the Graded Response Action Plan. Enforcement against overaged diesel and petrol vehicles will also be strengthened in accordance with the orders of the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court .
