With many commuters reporting a decline in fuel efficiency recently, demand for EVs has increased,” said a market expert. The growing adoption of rooftop solar systems is also adding to the appeal of electric mobility,” said experts. Electric two-wheelers continue to dominate the segment as motorists increasingly opt for alternatives to petrol-powered vehicles. “The price gap between electric and petrol two-wheelers is not significant. Year-wise figures for the past five financial years reflect the steady rise in EV registrations. Beyond private two-wheelers and cars, electric passenger vehicles, e-rickshaws and goods carriers are also finding favour, particularly among commercial operators seeking to cut operating costs. “With petrol prices hovering around Rs112 per litre and diesel around Rs99, lower running and maintenance costs are making EVs an attractive option, particularly for local commuting. “Many households with rooftop solar systems are increasingly opting for electric vehicles. This saves on electricity bills and fuel expenses,” they added. Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd ( MSEDCL ) is the nodal agency responsible for setting up the infrastructure.
