Dharmendrakumar Singh posed as a doctor for nearly thirty years: The wider industry impact

Dharmendrakumar Singh posed as a doctor for nearly thirty years and allegedly misappropriated funds totaling around Rs 188 crore.

In a tuberculosis screening project sanctioned by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Coal India subsidiary, the trust, R K HIV AIDS Research and Care Centre, allegedly secured approval for a project worth Rs 3.82 crore to screen 50,000 people and received its first instalment of Rs 38.25 lakh in Feb 2025. Investigators said that, during sample verification, 520 of 543 records relating to beneficiaries in Bilaspur were found to be unverifiable through Aadhaar checks, raising suspicions that the project’s beneficiary data had been fabricated. The chargesheet further stated that the accused operated through multiple trusts and entities, including R K HIV AIDS Research and Care Centre and Doctor 365 Health Services Private Limited. A preliminary analysis of the bank records showed that, in one bank account, several large deposits were followed by substantial transfers to other accounts within 72 hours or seven days. Investigators have identified transactions involving salaries paid to employees of Doctor 365 from the charitable trust’s accounts, as well as payments to the accused’s relatives, trustees and other entities.

He studied up to Class 12 and had previously worked as a hospital helper in Bihar, according to the chargesheet. The accused, Dharmendrakumar Singh, who impersonated as a doctor collected funds earmarked by companies under Corporate Social Responsibility and donations and diverted to private company employees, relatives, trustees and other beneficiaries, with a substantial portion transferred to other accounts within days of being received.

MUMBAI: A Mumbai Crime Branch investigation into a man accused of posing as a doctor for nearly three decades has found suspected financial transactions of around Rs 188 crore across approximately 30 bank accounts linked to his trusts, foundations and companies, states the chargesheet filed by the police.
