A fresh row erupted in another assembly constituency of UP’s Pilibhit district on Tuesday

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

In the 129-Puranpur (SC) seat, 23-year-old Robina’s name was purportedly changed to “Ravindra Singh”, while her father’s name Rais Ahmad was replaced with “Dhanpal Singh”. Pilibhit : A fresh row erupted in another assembly constituency of UP’s Pilibhit district on Tuesday with alleged discrepancies in names of original voters.

This comes barely days after TOI reported about “unauthorised changes” to at least 13,150 electors’ details in 127-Pilibhit Sadar constituency, which had seen a close contest in the 2022 state polls. UP chief electoral officer, Navdeep Rinwa, had termed the changes a “deliberate crime, rather than mistake”. ADM/deputy district electoral officer, Prasoon Dwivedi, said that “these may not be clerical errors, but deliberate attempts”. He added: “Appropriate legal measures will be taken if tampering with voter details is detected in any constituency of Pilibhit district,” he added.

In that case, an FIR was registered against two SDMs/EROs and a departmental probe recommended against them. Speaking with TOI on Tuesday, Robina, whose name appeared differently on the Election Commission portal, said, “We’ve brought the matter to the notice of Puranpur SDM Nagendra Pandey.
