The Tesla car that Ishan Pandhare was driving that hit two students.
A lawsuit has revealed a heinous overspeeding case in California that took place earlier this year when two 19-year-old students of California Polytechnic State University, Lilianne Burke and Zoey Archibald, were mowed down by a speeding Tesla driven by drunk Ishan Pandhare, a 20-year-old. The accident took place on January 8 and the lawsuit was filed in July. Pandhare has been accused of attending multiple alcohol parties before hitting the sorority sisters at 60mph in a 25-mph zone. Pandhare attended a party hosted by a 21-year-old and then another event hosted by Kappa Sigma fraternity members, according to court documents. After being suspended from Cal Poly and posting his $150,000 bail, Pandhare has been living in San Diego with his parents.
“Two Cal Poly students were run over and left bleeding in the road by an underage driver under the influence who cowardly fled the scene,” Theo Emison, Archibald’s attorney, told The San Luis Obispo Tribune. “There are so many layers of failure here that had the law been followed by any one of the people who furnished the alcohol, provided the vehicle, encouraged excessive consumption and drove the vehicle, this life-changing collision would not have happened,” Christopher Dolan, Burke’s attorney, told The Tribune. The sisters were ‘left like run over garbage in the roadway,’ and had to be immediately transported to the hospital, according to the lawsuit. One witness said the two victims flew through the air after being hit by Pandhare.
Pandhare is one of the several defendants named in the complaint. The lawsuit seeks monetary damages for the serious physical injuries of the girls and their emotional distress. Pandhare also faces charges of DUI causing bodily injury, reckless driving causing injury and hit-and run causing injury of death in a separate case in which he has pleaded not guilty. “We will find all persons who are responsible in any way for this tragedy and hold every one of them accountable for this despicable conduct. The lawsuit claims Pandhare never used the brakes or made any attempt to slow down before or after the accident, leaving the women with injuries so severe they required surgery and continued treatment. The two students also sued the Kapp Sigma fraternity for encouraging underage students to drink. You use AI every day. Now get your AI Quotient. Take the AIQ test.
