District administration demands Rs 658.6 crore relief fund: The wider industry impact

Farmer destroys the farm after crop failure in Dhule

Nashik: A financial relief fund demand of Rs 658.6 crore has been raised by the district administration to mitigate widespread agricultural losses following deficient seasonal rainfall across 13 talukas of Nashik district. “We have 13 talukas that have been declared as drought hit. The collector noted that prevailing drought conditions have devastated the local agrarian economy, affecting 6.9 lakh farmers across 3,306 villages with crop damage reaching 33% or more.

The urgent demand follows 13 out of 15 talukas qualifying drought norms due to dry spells between successive rains, causing crops to wilt, turn weaker, and suffer stunted growth across the affected rural belt. Stunted growth heavily impacted crops like maize, cotton, soybean and black gram due to extended dry spells and moisture stress. “The comprehensive damage assessment conducted by agricultural authorities shows that in all, 6.4 lakh hectare of crop has been damaged due to drought.

We are hopeful that the govt will treat our requests,” said collector Ayush Prasad. We have proposed the case of Nashik and Dindori taluka also for drought given the conditions on the ground through agriculture department.

Additionally, the administration expects to need about Rs 14 crore under the water scarcity action plan to supply drinking water to 919 villages, with the highest 125 in Malegaon taluka, utilising private water supply tankers to tackle drinking water shortages across the region as groundwater levels decline. The action plan will remain operational across multiple phases spanning from Oct 2026 to June 2027 to ensure continuous supply while monitoring groundwater levels closely across vulnerable talukas in the district to provide timely assistance. They have lost the Kharif crop and there is less moisture in the ground which means the rabi crop is also in danger.
