Chennai: The state govt has doubled the minimum autorickshaw fare from ₹25 to ₹50 for the first 1.8km and raised the charge for every additional kilometre from ₹12 to ₹25 in Chennai and elsewhere in the state. The earlier fares were fixed in 2013.

The order supersedes the govt’s earlier fare notifications dated Aug 25, 2013, and Oct 16, 2014. The notification, signed by principal secretary A Karthik, directs the State Transport Authority and the regional transport authorities concerned to fix the revised fares for contract carriage autorickshaws.
