NEW DELHI: The Delhi Liquor Booking app was approved by the previous government in 2024 to ensure transparency and prevent brand pushing in retail liquor sales, the Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) said on Wednesday. The app was launched by DSIIDC in November 2025 after the required trials, allowing customers to book liquor online and collect it from the corporation’s retail vends, officials said. “In order to ensure transparency, digital governance and avoid brand pushing, the Delhi Liquor Booking app was rolled out by DSIIDC in November 2025. Earlier, approval was granted for developing the app by DSIIDC Management in December 2024. A work order for developing the app was issued on January 2, 2025,” a senior DSIIDC officer said.

Four Delhi government corporations operate more than 700 retail liquor stores across the city. However, online booking is currently available only at over 200 vends run by DSIIDC. Under Excise rules, an individual can possess up to nine litres of whisky and 18 litres of beer.

Once an order is confirmed and verified, customers must collect the purchased bottle from the designated store. Liquor that has been sold or collected by a consumer cannot be returned, according to the rules. To extend the facility to iOS users and ensure platform neutrality, DSIIDC launched a QR code-enabled microsite on September 6. During the 2025-26 financial year, the app recorded 3,629 transactions, with liquor sales worth around Rs 13 lakh. In the current financial year, liquor worth around Rs 30 lakh has been sold through 10,730 transactions so far, officials said. Users must also verify that they are above the legal drinking age of 25 years to use the app, officials said.

Initially, the app was compatible only with Android devices. Customers can register on the app to check the availability of liquor stocks, place orders and make digital payments. The facility is intended to prevent brand pushing by allowing customers to select their preferred products online. The initiative also aims to reduce crowds outside liquor stores, which can sometimes lead to law and order situations, they added.
