Kolkata: The internal feud between Barrackpore BJP MLA Kaustav Bagchi and transport minister Arjun Singh intensified on Wednesday after BJP functionaries visited former Barrackpore Municipality chairman Uttam Das to exchange Bijoya greetings, defying Bagchi’s opposition to his possible induction into the party.
“He got the ticket with a silver spoon in his mouth,” Yadav said, alleging Bagchi was absent when BJP workers faced attacks during the party’s difficult days. Basu said the visit was a courtesy call, adding that the decision on induction rested with the state leadership. The blood of Manish Shukla’s(BJP councillor) murder is still on that leader’s hands,” Bagchi said, referring to Das.
The latest visit triggered fresh anger, with functionaries considered close to Singh questioning the MLA’s contribution to the party. Among those who visited Das’s residence were BJP National Council member Ahindranath Basu and youth functionary Sanjay Yadav . “Those who visited Uttam Das’s residence hold no position of responsibility in the party.
Bagchi had earlier threatened to commit suicide by setting himself on fire if Das joined BJP.
