Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari
Kolkata: Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday claimed in the assembly that a Rs 2 crore contract had been issued to murder his former aide Chandranath Rath, and questioned whether the money originated from Kalighat, Camac Street or Diamond Harbour. Chandranath was murdered on May 6, shortly after the assembly election results were announced in the state.
Thanking the people of Nandigram for electing her, the CM said, “Chandranath was murdered as he was my associate. What remains to be established is who paid Rs 2 crore to have him killed,” adding, “Did the money come from Kalighat, Camac Street or someone in Diamond Harbour?” He was speaking following the oath-taking of Chandranath’s mother Hasirani Rath. BJP subsequently fielded his mother, Hasirani, from the Nandigram constituency vacated by Adhikari. Seven people have already been arrested in the case.
