Kochi : A CBI special court on Wednesday reserved its verdict on the murder trial of IUML worker Abdul Shukkoor for Nov 12. Of the total 33 accused, two have since died. In 2016, Kerala High Court ordered a CBI investigation while allowing her writ petition.

Three were released after the purported verification, while Shukkoor and another IUML worker, Zakaria, were taken to a nearby field and stabbed.

Shukkoor and four other youths had taken shelter in a house at Keezhara, according to police. CPM senior functionaries P Jayarajan and T V Rajesh are among the accused in the case. The court had declined to quash the trial proceedings against CPM former Kannur district secretary Jayarajan and former MLA and then DYFI state secretary Rajesh. A group of CPM workers allegedly intimidated the house owners, forcing the youths to leave. The assailants then photographed them on mobile phones and verified their identities with party workers. The investigation came under scrutiny following a petition by Shukkoor’s mother A C Aathikka. She contended that the police had failed to gather evidence concerning the alleged criminal conspiracy involving Jayarajan and Rajesh, whom she claimed had played an instrumental role in the murder.
