Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday asserted that any recounting of votes would not affect the PDA’s march towards victory, claiming that party workers and supporters were closely monitoring the counting process in Varanasi and other centres.
He said BJP might attempt to create disturbances and tarnish the SP’s image ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Senior SP member Shivpal Yadav described the MLC poll results as the beginning of the party’s preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections.
Addressing party workers and supporters, he said PDA activists, SP functionaries, youth seeking free and fair elections, and supporters of democracy were reaching counting centres from nearby districts in large numbers. Many, he said, were carrying food and water for colleagues stationed there to ensure round-the-clock vigilance over the counting process. Akhilesh said that attempts were being made to influence election outcomes through unfair means and urged party workers not to let their guard down. “Injustice should not reach such an extent that people are forced to cross the boundaries of morality,” he said. Appealing to the party’s PDA praharis (watchdogs), Akhilesh said they must continue monitoring the counting process until the results were conclusively established. “Until there is proof of victory, there must be no rest,” he said, calling on workers to remain vigilant and disciplined. He further said the treatment meted out to Tripathi and Agra teachers’ constituency candidate Akash Agrawal had generated resentment among teachers and sections of the Agarwal community. “The clarion call for a Samajwadi victory has been sounded; now it is time for a historic result in 2027,” he said.
he advised workers to celebrate responsibly through social media and avoid public processions or gatherings While expressing satisfaction over the results. He added that the PDA’s social coalition now also included the Agarwal and Agravanshi communities, whose support had strengthened the party’s base.
Because he represented the SP but also due to local political considerations, he alleged that Tripathi was targeted not only. Akhilesh accused BJP of promoting electoral irregularities and attempting to win elections through unfair methods. Referring to the Gorakhpur teachers’ constituency, he alleged irregularities during vote counting had exposed a conspiracy to defeat SP candidate Sanjayan Tripathi.
