Pune: A senior inspector of Market Yard police station was transferred on Wednesday for recording an Rs 35 lakh robbery on Oct 9 as a Rs 1 lakh property theft case. “The businessman who got robbed of Rs 35 lakh visited Market Yard police station on several occasions to report the robbery. The manipulation came to light after Swargate police on Tuesday arrested two thieves in a robbery attempt case on Sept 23, when a Market Yard shopkeeper was on his way home and the two men attempted to rob him of Rs 4 lakh. “During interrogation, the two suspects told Swargate police that they robbed an Angadia of Rs 35 lakh in Market Yard area on Oct 9.

The station staff, however, recorded the incident as a case of property missing instead of registering a robbery case,” he said. “This was a suppression of crime,” Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Wednesday told TOI . The Angadia was carrying the cash belonging to the businessman who tried to report the incident at Market Yard police station,” Kumar said. “While Swargate police were solving the case that happened on Sept 23, the suspects confessed to the Rs 35 lakh robbery that happened on Oct 9 under the jurisdiction of Market Yard police,” the commissioner said, adding that Swargate police then recovered Rs 25 lakh from the thieves.

However, an intervention by a young woman saved the man and his cash. Swargate police started questioning these two arrested thieves.
