COIMBATORE: The Thadagam police in Coimbatore district have registered a case against a group of individuals for verbally abusing and issuing death threats to a local BJP functionary and his brother following a dispute over a Facebook post.

The complainant, K Chandrasekar, 35, of Hanumanth Street in Pannimadai, works as a car driver and serves as the BJP west zone secretary for Periyanaickenpalayam.

Chandrasekar came across derogatory remarks about the BJP posted on Facebook by an acquaintance named Poovaithangam on Oct 23, according to the complaint. Upon arriving, Sureshkumar found Poovaitangam, Kamalnath, Selvam, Kameswaran and several others waiting with their vehicles. The group confronted Sureshkumar, demanding that he wanted to know Chandrasekar’s whereabouts while verbally abusing him. When a local resident named Akash intervened to break up the altercation, Selvam picked up a log and threatened to strike Sureshkumar. The group also attempted to force Sureshkumar into their vehicle and abduct him until Chandrasekar arrived. However, as residents gathered and raised an alarm, the gang fled the scene in their vehicles. Following a complaint filed, the Thadagam police registered a case and began investigations.
