Agartala: Police on Thursday detained a Bangladeshi man suspected of links to Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS) Santu faction from Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Bimal Chakma, son of Bhubanta Chakma, was nabbed with 200 rounds of ammunition under Maharani police station limits at Udaipur in Tripura’s Gomati district.
Police said Bimal operates under prominent JSS (Santu faction) functionaries Pratyuttar Chakma and Samajpriya Chakma. He is a resident of Shantitila at Dudukchhara under Panchhari in southern Bangladesh’s Khagrachari district. The two operatives allegedly have ties to Jumma Liberation Army deputy field commander Jyotisman Chakma, alias Bulbul, a descendant of Santu Larma from Chittagong Hill Tracts. Police have begun an inquiry into the seizure to ascertain the ammunition’s intended use and possible involvement of other parties. Further details on the ammunition’s origin and legal action against the detainee are awaited.
