51 live cartridges found under Jam river bridge near Maha-MP Border

The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Nagpur: The recovery of 51 live cartridges and 50 empty ammunition cases under a bridge on the Jam river near Bharsinghi village has triggered an investigation involving Nagpur Rural Police, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and intelligence agencies.

The recovered ammunition comprises cartridges of different calibres, including 7.62mm, .202mm and .22mm.

Preliminary examination reportedly traced the ammunition to three ordnance factories — Khadki, Bhusawal and Jabalpur — senior police officers said. Nagpur Rural Police seized the material and sent it to the Ordnance Factory at Pulgaon for detailed examination and testing. Investigators suspect that the ammunition and empty cases could have been collected from army or police firing ranges following target practice and subsequently dumped beneath the bridge. A local crime branch team, led by senior police inspector Ankush Mane, along with ASP Anil Mhaske, visited the spot as part of the investigation. ATS personnel and intelligence officials too inspected the spot.

The ammunition was found on Wednesday under a bridge, around 85km from Nagpur city and close to the Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border.
