After Arnab rain, Met tracks another bay system: The wider industry impact

Rain in Kolkata on Thursday

The new weather system could get condensed into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours and thus influence the state’s weather system next week. The maximum temperature dropped 2.7°Celsius below normal to 28.2° Celsius.

Though the impact on south Bengal will be reduced, north Bengal may get heavy rain, said HR Biswas, head of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata. Sea surface temperature and the speed of the system over the sea could prevent it from gaining the strength of a cyclonic storm, said weathermen. The city is likely to be free of its impact by the second half of Friday with the city receiving a few spells of light rain. The intensity of the influence on the Bengal’s weather system would depend on the low-pressure’s path and speed, added Biswas. Cyclone Arnab has now weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining northwest Odisha.
