Mysuru: Deputy Lokayukta KN Phanindra on Friday urged govt officers and employees to work with integrity, dedication, punctuality and humane values rather than confining themselves to laws and service rules.
Presiding over the Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 programme here, he said corruption had not been eradicated nearly four decades after the Lokayukta institution was established. Lokayukta observes Vigilance Awareness Week annually from the last week of Oct to Nov 5, coinciding with the birth anniversary of former deputy PM Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Phanindra said he had disposed of 22,000 of the 30,000 cases received so far.

Karnataka ranked third among the country’s most corrupt states, he said. Phanindra said citizens had a greater responsibility to root out corruption, while officials must work honestly, transparently and accountably to end the menace. They should also work beyond stipulated hours to address public grievances, he added. The initiative highlights ethics, accountability and transparency in public governance. Deputy commissioner G Lakshmikanth Reddy, police chief Seema Latkar, ZP CEO S Ukeshkumar and Lokayukta SP TJ Udesha attended. Download the TOI App.
