Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao
He said BJP supported rejuvenation of the river but wanted the govt to prepare plans that would ensure that houses belonging to poor people were not affected. Questioning the proposed expenditure, he said it was strange that the govt, which claimed to lack funds to pay salaries and pensions to employees and implement the PRC, was prepared to spend thousands of crores of rupees on Musi rejuvenation. Addressing the media at the BJP state office in Nampally, he accused Congress of spreading misinformation by claiming that BJP was obstructing the Musi project. He questioned where the funds for the project were coming from when the govt claimed to have no money for welfare schemes.
Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Friday said the party was not opposed to the Musi rejuvenation project but strongly opposed the alleged displacement of poor people living along the river as part of the proposed Gandhi Sarovar project.
Recalling the UPA govt’s tenure, he said Sonia Gandhi had questioned the need for a mock Parliament organised under the leadership of Mulayam Singh Yadav. He also criticised opposition parties for planning to organise a mock Parliament in Delhi, accusing Congress leaders of making a mockery of democracy. He also referred to former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar’s description of Parliament as a temple of democracy. He accused Congress leaders of undermining parliamentary institutions and democratic values for political gain by organising mock Parliaments.
