Mumbai: Former MP Gopal Shetty and BJP leader of the house in BMC Ganesh Khankar objected to the 2025 civic circular which still states that project-affected persons will be given 225-sq-ft houses in line with the 2009 circular, despite a provision for 300-sq-ft homes for PAPs of other state agencies.
He said the earlier charge of Rs 654 per sq ft had been increased to Rs 6.25 lakh, and questioned the financial burden being imposed on project-affected families.
“It is unfair to impose financial penalties on the project-affected citizens who have been living in Mumbai for years instead of providing relief,” Shetty said. He said the administration has agreed with this position in principle and has promised to take the issue up for discussion in the group leaders’ meeting in the presence of the commissioner and take an appropriate final decision. Shetty also raised concerns over the steep increase in the amount payable by shop owners opting for residential accommodation.
