POWER THEFT

Nashik : A flying squad of the electricity distribution company detected power theft worth Rs 50.3 lakh at two locations in Someshwar Colony, Satpur. Police registered a case against company owner and electricity consumer Geeta Vikas Tidke (62), a resident of Someshwar Colony, Satpur, and user Avinash Pandurang Kale (42), a resident of Tidke Mala, Satpur. The inspection revealed that heavy industrial power was being illegally consumed through technical modifications that resulted in under-recording of electricity consumption.

A case was registered against two suspects at Nashik Road police station following the raid. The squad, led by Additional Executive Engineer Sushil Kumar Jaiswal, along with Assistant Engineer Kapil Gathle, Junior Engineer Prashant Karale and technical staff, conducted a surprise inspection at a plastic moulding and trolley bag manufacturing unit.

Between Oct 2025 and Sep 2026, the unauthorised consumption was calculated at 2.39 lakh units, amounting to power theft worth Rs 50.3 lakh. Mahavitaran also levied a settlement amount of Rs 17 lakh.

The study led to the identification of the consumers,” a senior officer said on condition of anonymity. “The meter consumption records were being tracked for the last few months. The power consumption in the area was higher compared to the revenue realised through billing.
