Residents stock up on water as once-weekly cuts continue
The situation emerged despite PMC having carried out repairs of several air valves and leakages, as well as fixing of air pockets during the closure day, following continuous complaints about restoration of supply ever since weekly cuts were imposed in Pune city on Oct 15. The civic administration claims to be taking efforts, but progress is very slow,” Shinde said. Bhau Kale, a resident of Bibvewadi road, said, “PMC standardly takes at least two days to regularise supply. The problem is worse for residents from merged areas, who said there is little improvement in overall water availability for them. Sanjay Satkar, a resident of Hadapsar road, said, “Our area is reeling under water scarcity. PMC’s water supply department officials merely said that work to plug leakages and repair valves to remove airlocks in distribution lines is under way. An official, requesting anonymity, told TOI , “We are clearing the airlocks at maximum locations.
One such instance occurred in the Patwardhan Baug locality of Erandwane, where a malfunctioning air valve caused a pipeline leakage. Citizens from various areas pointed out that despite this being the third weekly water closure in a row, PMC is yet to streamline and smoothen restoration of supply the following day. “Every week, people are experiencing two-day water cuts. A similar low-pressure issue was faced in the Satara Road area this Friday. Water pressure has continued to remain low for us, which is a major hurdle the civic administration will have to tackle in the coming days. Housing societies cannot even get tanker supply on time. We repeatedly have to follow up with local authorities for deployment of tankers. PMC needs to closely monitor this deployment. Works often face delays owing to various technical reasons. We cannot shut the supply to the distribution lines for the entire day. Download the TOI App.
Pune: City residents across areas continued to face delays in restoration of water supply and received low-pressure flow in their taps on Friday this time, too, following Thursday’s once-a-week closure. Further, many repair works were completed late on Thursday night, compounding the delay in restoration of supply to some extent on Friday. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) washed out water from the entire line to assist repairs, which finished late on Thursday night. Vishal Shinde, a resident of Tanajiwadi in Shivajinagar, said water supply resumes late on Friday evening for them at low pressure.
