Pune: A 25-year-old man who had been missing for five days was found dead inside a car parked near a temple close to Sarasbaug on Friday morning. Police said Bansode had left home around noon on Oct 26 to deliver a lunchbox to his father, an autorickshaw driver by profession, near the Hadapsar Gadital autorickshaw stand. Police said investigation revealed that he had taken the car from a friend before he went missing.

Senior police inspector Yashwant Nikam of Swargate police said Bansode may have died two days ago, as foul smell had started emanating from the car. His viscera have been preserved for chemical analysis following the autopsy,” he said. After handing over the lunchbox, he told his father that he was returning home. “A forensic team was called to the spot to collect evidence,” Nikam said. Police are also checking if Bansode had any previous criminal record, the officer said.

The deceased was identified as Shubhrat Balasaheb Bansode, a resident of Kavdi village in Loni Kalbhor. “The cause of death is yet to be ascertained. There were no visible injury marks on Bansode’s body, the officer added. A team from Swargate police station found Bansode’s body on the rear seat. The car had apparently been parked there for the past few days. Swargate police have registered a case of accidental death.

Police were alerted on Friday morning after a person near the temple noticed a foul smell coming from a car parked outside.

Bansode’s elder brother, Shubham (28), returned home from work after his night shift and learnt from their mother that he had not returned.

“Shubham subsequently lodged a missing person’s complaint at the Hadapsar police station on the night of Oct 28,” the officer said. His family began searching for him after he failed to return home.
