Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A Jalna court has sentenced a 26-year-old Bangladeshi national to two years’ simple imprisonment for illegally entering and residing in India using forged identity documents, including Aadhaar, PAN and voter ID cards.

Additional sessions judge R B Parvekar of the Jalna District and Sessions Court-6 convicted Aslam Mani Kaji in a case registered by Badnapur police. The court awarded him two years’ simple imprisonment under sections 14 and 14A(b) of the Foreigners Act, besides shorter sentences under the Passport (Entry into India) Rules. The period spent in custody since April 7, 2025, will be set off against the sentence.

The court said the trial against the second accused, Bulbuli Mustfur Rahman, will continue in accordance with law. Kaji pleaded guilty during the trial, following which the court convicted and sentenced him. All substantive sentences will run concurrently, making the effective prison term two years. The court also directed the prosecution to initiate Kaji’s deportation after completion of the sentence and submit a compliance report. The investigation was conducted by sub-inspector A G Jaiswal of Badnapur police station, who later filed the chargesheet.

The case surfaced on April 7, 2025, when Badnapur police responded to a Dial 112 call reporting a possible assault and threat to life at Noor Hospital. During questioning, they initially claimed to be from Mumbai, but further inquiry revealed they were Bangladeshi nationals, leading to registration of the case. Police found a man and woman arguing at the hospital.
