Bijnor : A leopard was trapped in a cage set up by the forest department near gate number 2 of Sarojini Nagar Colony, close to the local BJP office, on Sunday morning, bringing relief to residents of Shivlok City, Sarojini Nagar and Indralok Colony who had reported repeated sightings of the animal in the area. A large number of residents gathered at the spot after news of its capture spread.
Bijnor divisional forest officer Jai Singh Kushwah said the district has rescued 66 leopards so far in 2026. The district has 124 cages for trapping leopards, of which 52 are with the forest department, and 72 have been provided by the revenue department and other govt agencies. No casualties were reported during the leopard’s presence in the area.
Residents welcomed the action but urged authorities to clear thick bushes and accumulated scrap from vacant plots, which they said could provide hiding places for wild animals. They also demanded a cleanliness drive in the adjoining colonies.
