Bribe
Mumbai: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a 51-year-old executive engineer of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited ( Mahavitaran ) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a civil contractor in Bhandup . He had allegedly demanded Rs 1.8 lakh from a 37-year-old contractor for approving his pending bills worth approximately Rs 21 lakh for various govt civil works undertaken since June 2026, according to the ACB. During verification, Gilurkar allegedly agreed to accept the demanded amount in instalments and sought the first instalment of Rs 50,000. The ACB subsequently laid a trap on Monday and caught Gilurkar red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000 from the complainant at the MahaVitaran Construction Department office in Bhandup.
The accused, Devendra Gilurkar, was posted as an executive engineer (Civil) in MahaVitaran’s Civil Department at Bhandup. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the contractor approached the ACB Mumbai unit and lodged a complaint.
He was taken into custody at around 5 pm. The agency is in the process of registering an offence against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
