The emergence of CCTV footage has added a fresh dimension to the case

Hubballi : Even as people are now gearing up for Deepavali , the Ganesha idols immersed back in Sept, are still unattended at the Hosur well, where many idols, including the 25ft Hubballi Ka Maharaja were immersed. HDMC, was supposed to clean the well, but has not cleaned the debris yet.

Ravi Chakalabbi, president, school development and monitoring committee, Govt Higher Primary School No 16, Hosur, told TOI that the well is now stinking badly, and some students are skipping classes due to pathetic condition.

“If one had real devotion, they could have ensured cleanliness and maintenance of the well,” they said. Vijay, Smita, Anita, Kumar and other students said that they are in confusion about the devotion after seeing the plight of this well. “We are often told that cleanliness and godliness are closer but here cleanliness is contrast to godliness. Mohan Limbikai, president of Hubballi Sarvajanika Gajananotsav Mahamandal, said the HDMC should be taking up the cleaning of the well after the festival.

Parents also regretted that Ganesha has become an object of politics. HDMC should help us focus on studies by cleaning the well at the earliest,” they urged. “Since it’s a hygiene issue for students and surrounding residents, there shouldn’t be a delay. We will take a delegation to the HDMC and pressurise them to act quickly,” he assured.
