Torrential rain, reportedly exceeding 100 mm, also flooded roads and overwhelmed local drainage systems.

A meteorologist in Tucson said the region was receiving two to three months’ worth of rain within a few days. The National Weather Service warned that continued rainfall could cause further flooding and make roads in remote areas impassable. Forecasters estimated that some areas could receive up to four inches of rain, with the wet weather expected to continue through Monday. Videos from San José del Cabo in Mexico’s Baja California Sur state showed powerful floodwaters sweeping cars through the Costa Azul stream as heavy rainfall turned normally dry channels into raging rivers.

Flood watches and warnings were issued on Saturday for nearly all of Arizona and parts of southern Utah, southwestern Colorado, western New Mexico and southern Nevada, including the Four Corners region.
