A 28-year-old woman was left critically injured after being stabbed multiple times in the neck while jogging along a waterfront trail in Brooklyn, New York, with police appealing to the public for information to identify the attacker and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The victim, identified as Katie Suarez, was running along the Shore Parkway Greenway, a paved waterfront path, at around 8 pm local time on Friday, October 30, when the attack took place, according to a New York Police Department (NYPD) statement. Police sources said Suarez had been training for the New York City Marathon when she was attacked, according to ABC 7. Police are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen Suarez between 7:56 pm and 8:12 pm near the eastbound bike path along the Belt Parkway, between Bay 8 Street and Bay 17 Street.

The NYPD has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward as investigators work to establish the sequence of events and identify the person responsible.

The New York Post, citing sources familiar with the family, reported that Suarez had left work earlier that evening and planned to meet her parents after completing her run.

Emergency medical personnel rushed Suarez to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she was admitted in critical condition.
